Intricato – perché inizia in medias res e sta al lettore rimettere a posto simboli e ricordi in ordine temporale. Non è per niente lineare. J'ai attendu 2 jours avant de pouvoir tenter une review un tant soit peu articulée... c'est dire l'impression durable que m'a laissée ce livre ! Il n'est toutefois pas exempt de défauts... Les trois métamorphoses de l'esprit ( «comment l'esprit devient chameau, et le chameau, lion, et le lion enfant pour finir») [8 ] sont issues de l'ouvrage Ainsi parlait Zarathoustra de Nietzsche. Una struttura narrativa corale, che si basa sull’alternarsi dei punti di vista dei membri dell’orda (alcuni dei quali hanno, per forza di cose, un ruolo e uno spazio preponderante rispetto ad altri), complessa e articolata, che svela un romanzo non semplice, anzi.

The wind in this place is more than just a normal wind. It is capable of creating some sorts of localized cyclones with basically magical properties. For that reason, I'd call this a work of fantasy. But the wind also has symbolic, metaphoric functions in the story, representing life, energy, speech, and words. Sometimes it is hard to tell where the metaphors end and the literal description begins. (Do the cyclones really display written characters on their sides?) Prévenons donc les lecteurs naïfs et confiants que la forme de ce roman est complètement absconse et aussi complétement aussi pénible , que inutilement ampoulée . Elle est même violement ampoulée je dirais …

Le livre qui vous a bouleversé

Damasio scrive in modo molto particolare e "denso" di termini desueti, nell'ambito della letteratura di genere odierna. Alain Damasio also wrote the script of WindWalkers, an animation film taken from La Horde du Contrevent with Jan Kounen as director and Marc Caro as art director.

Le caratterizzazioni sono ben fatte, così come i cambi di registro, ma purtroppo riguardano solo alcuni dei protagonisti principali — difficile non riconoscerli —, e rimangono sfumate per il resto della compagnia. Le figure maschili sono rese meglio di quelle femminili; qui l’autore poteva fare di più, almeno per dare maggiore equilibrio alle parti.

But there's so much more about this book and it's just about time I got around to telling you about the plot, isn't it? Regarding the form itself, we have a french writer who not only invented a very original and exciting world, but invented the lexical field to go along. But it’s still not what make this book so good to read. The author decided to have multiple narrators (every member of the horde can be the narrator for a few paragraphs). And there we have all the genius of the author: every character has its own way of telling its story or feelings. We have the Golgoth, the leader of the horde, who talks with a very crude but still rich vocabulary, which of course emphasizes its own character. We have Caracole, the troubadour, who plays with the french language with a skill I’ve never seen before. And then we have the main narrator, the scribe, who speaks a quite common language (otherwise the book would be very hard to read). And we have Pietro, the wisest of the group, with its language very concise. And so on… La Horde du Contrevent est publié aux éditions La Volte en 2004, en grand format, accompagné d'un CD de musique de «bande originale du livre». Une édition «de luxe» est éditée avec un DVD vidéo qui présente l'auteur, la genèse du livre (reportage et entretien); DVD réalisé par le réalisateur Bruno Raymond-Damasio, le frère de l'auteur. Non sono una che si commuove con i libri. Li posso adorare e amare alla follia, ma di solito non mi riesce proprio di piangere. Di solito le lacrime mi riescono ad uscire solo coi film, dove la musica, la voce e le espressioni mi riempiono di carica emotiva. L'ultima, e credo unica, volta per cui ho pianto per un libro, è stato per Io & Marley, e credo che si sia trattato di almeno dieci anni fa. Comunque, verso la fine, mentre i personaggi se ne andavano uno dopo l'altro, io ho pianto. Ho pianto perchè non mi sono mai sentita vicina alla loro intrinseca disperazione. E tutte le volte che vicino al simbolino del nome c'erano tutte quelle virgole e puntini, io piangevo. Questo libro è riuscito a farmi piangere per della punteggiatura.

Atemporale – perchè vivono alla maniera medievale ma usufruiscono di strumenti ipertecnologici, quasi fantascientifici. L’inizio sicuramente incuriosisce, ma al contempo getta in mezzo alla storia senza alcuna spiegazione, pertanto si seguono le prima pagine cercando di carpire più dati possibili per farsi un’idea del mondo in cui si è catapultati.

Bellissima, infine, anche la citazione di Nietzche delle tre metamorfosi. Quando ho letto questo passaggio, mi sono sinceramente commossa. Alain Damasio (born Alain Raymond, 1 August 1969) is a French writer of sci-fi and fantasy. He also works as a scriptwriter for comics, radio fictions, movie and TV series. He is also notable as an audio and spoken word artist. Imaginez alors que dans cette horde, un voyage au cœur de paysages si différents possédant leurs propres dangers et des créatures que vous ne connaissez point.
