About this deal

It’s a pity BBC Video couldn’t strike a deal with Reeltime Pictures, who did a similar thing many years featuring Jon Pertwee, Nicholas Courtney and director Christopher Barry – all sadly no longer with us. The Direct Route - Doctor Who directors Michael Briant, Graeme Harper and Tim Combe take an epic road trip to all the filming locations from Season 8 as they discuss directing the show in the early 1970s. That aside I am very happy with this release as I am big Pertwee era fan despite McCoy having been my Doctor. The real highlight herein though is The Dæmons, a five-part adventure co-written by producer Barry Letts, which takes all the essential Doctor Who ingredients and blends them together into an entertaining tale of eerie tea-time adventure. I should have stopped watching then , but i didn’t want to leave the sinking ship and let Powell win.

Regarding Delta and the Bannerman that was series totally humiliation , could the series sink any lower than that. Frankly it must be witchcraft, because unless four colour copies have suddenly materialised, then these recolourised episodes, with even more work on them, look in pristine condition. I remember reading the Curse of Pleadon target book when I was a kid and when I finally saw it for the very first time which was the DVD release it did not disappoint! Prior to The War Games, where the Time Lords are an aloof, indistinct presence, the only named member of the Doctor’s race had been The Meddling Monk in The Time Meddler and it would be another 2 years before the Doctor’s home planet is finally named as Gallifrey in The Time Warrior. I’m watching The Daemons now I agree with Ken, massive improvement on the studio and some of the film too, parts are still a bit grainy but in terms of improvement it’s a great job.Colony In Space sees the Time Lords send The Doctor and Jo in the Tardis to a colony planet in the future where The Master is after a doomsday weapon. So imagine if the brilliant people in charge of The Collection range went to the time and effort to tidy up these images.

The 1971 season marks the beginning of the ‘UNIT family’ that would define the series for the next 4 years and change certain aspects of the show forever. The additional scenes don’t particularly add much to the story but they are nice to have reinstalled. Once that’s finished he’s taking a few weeks off doctor who as he’s been working on the blu ray sets flat out for the past year. Decided to get the standard edition of this blu ray set as the limited editions are getting too expensive, you get exactly the same content on each disc, the only difference is a slimmer case and the booklet has less pages.

Can’t say it’s a rights issue either as they could easily include the Who snippets without as much as a frame of Disney footage. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). I recommend the UK limited edition over the US version of this set because the packaging is nicer, it includes a booklet detailing the contents, and each disc label has different art work. The homage to A Clockwork Orange is a bit obvious but the convicted villains add a sense of gritty realness to an otherwise fantastical tale.A Devil's Weekend - Actors Katy Manning and John Levene take a personal trip back to the picturesque village of Aldbourne, 50 years after they recorded the Doctor Who story The Daemons there.
